The shekere is a time-honored West African instrument brought by slaves to Cuba. It was picked up by Cuban jazz musicians and is now featured prominently in Latin American music.

These traditional shekeres are made by filling a hollow gourd with beads or shells, and tying beaded netting around the outside. Shake, twist, slap the shekere to get a variety of sounds.

These small ones are 14-16” long and come in a variety of colors.
